A two-year-old boy has died in hospital after he was struck in the head by a stray bullet while playing with his friends in the courtyard of his house.
Victim Saif Al-Zen died in hospital in Madaba, Jordan, on 30th June from a single gunshot wound to the head.
A shocking X-ray image shows the bullet lodged deep inside his cranium.
A day earlier, he had been playing with his friends in the courtyard of his house in the Al Mamounia area when he suddenly fell to the ground.
After people saw that he was losing blood and had a severe laceration to his head, he was rushed to hospital, where he sadly passed away.
A special investigative team was formed and started questioning people in the areas adjacent to the boy’s residence.
A number of firearms were seized, with forensic examinations pointing to one of them as the one that fired the fatal shot.
According to Public Security Directorate spokesman Colonel Amer Al-Sartawi, its owner admitted to accidentally firing a gunshot while inspecting the firearm.
His name was withheld at the time of reporting, and the case has been referred to the judiciary.
Tragic Saif’s father, Rashed Al-Zen, wrote in a heartfelt social media post: “We belong to Allah, and to Him, we shall return.
“Indeed, the heart grieves, and the eyes shed tears, and we are saddened by your departure.
“With a heart full of pain, we mourn the death of my son, my heart and the joy of my soul, my child Saif Rashed Sulaiman Al-Zen, who passed away due to a stray gunshot to the head.
“We belong to Allah, and to Him, we shall return. Sufficient for us is Allah, and He is the best Disposer of affairs against anyone who is reckless with people’s lives.”
