The pair were arrested after dad-of-two Kadri Can, 40, died instantly from several gunshot wounds on 19th September.

Local media named the gunmen as Bilgin Budakkiran and Suat Potur from Lapseki, in Canakkale Province in western Turkey.

The three had been working together to frighten off a herd of wild boar and stop them from eating up their crops.

But apparently, Can was somehow mistaken for a boar and shot dead on the spot.

Social media users were quick to condemn the gunmen.

One named as ‘Sadan Erten’ said: “One should not fire without seeing a wild boar. A person who shoots at every dark shape they see should not engaged in hunting.”

‘Beytullah Donmez’ added: “Such an incident also happened in the village where I used to live in the past. It’s very tragic that he was killed by his friends.”

And ‘Ali Akinci’ argued: “A hunter sees the target, ensures the target they see is what it appears to be, and then fires. That way, there is no mistake. A man who fears the hunt should not become a hunter!”

The suspects remain in custody as the police investigation continues.
