Three kids suffering from diabetes have died after binge-eating sweets and ice cream while their mum was away.

Girls Reem, aged 8, and Basma, 7, together with their six-year-old brother Amin were rushed to a hospital after their mum – identified by local media as Sherihan F. A. – found them unconscious when she returned to their flat in Sohag, a city on the west bank of the Nile in central-eastern Egypt.

While the girls were already dead upon arrival at Sohag University Hospital, their brother Amin passed away a short while later the same day.

Their 37-year-old mum suffered a mental breakdown following the occurrences on 16th June, report local media.

Her kids were reportedly fully aware of their condition. They lived with their mother after a divorce.

Sherihan split from her unnamed husband following a series of bitter disputes, close relatives told local media.

It has not been reported why she had left the apartment and how long she had been away.

The authorities are investigating the death of the three siblings and it is unclear whether mourning mum Sherihan faces charges over her absence.
