This is the moment angry protesters smashed the windows of a McDonald’s branch in Istanbul during a violent protest after the bombing of Gaza’s al-Ahli hospital.

Thousands of people also gathered in front of the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on 18th October to protest against Israel.

The night-time footage shows the furious mob smashing the glass windows of the McDonald’s branch, while seemingly trying to force their way in.

A second footage shows the angry protesters having managed to smash one window of the branch, as they violently continue to punch and kick it.

Other videos show the protesters lighting fireworks off the General Consulate of Israel and shooting them into the sky.

The Istanbul Governor’s office stated that five people were detained, 63 people were wounded with 43 of them police officers, and one protester died after suffering a heart attack.

The Governor’s office said: “We are heartbroken that we were forced to intervene at this time of mourning.

“The police forces intervened to prevent any irredeemable acts, and stopped them from accessing the consulate building.”

The Turkish president declared a three-day mourning on Wednesday night, 18th October for the victims in Gaza’s al-Ahli hospital.

Previously, McDonald’s Israel had announced that it was giving thousands of free meals to hospitals and troops in the Israel Defence Forces.

The decision was strongly criticised by Arab countries, with the burger giant’s franchises in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Turkey disassociating themselves from the Israeli franchise.

Turkish McDonald’s restaurants are owned by Qatari company Boehm.

Hundreds of people died after an explosion at the al-Ahli al-Arabi hospital in Gaza on Tuesday night.

Gaza’s health ministry has said that 471 Palestinians were killed at the hospital, with a further 314 wounded.

Its spokesperson labelled the blast an “Israeli massacre”.

Palestinian officials have said that an Israeli airstrike caused the blast, while Israel has blamed Islamic Jihad saying it was a misfired missile.
