This is the moment the raised tipper of a truck hits a pedestrian overpass on a busy motorway in Turkey.
Footage captured from inside a car following the lorry on another lane of the E80 motorway in Istanbul shows how its tipper rams into the bridge.
A passerby can be seen walking on the bridge with a trolly just a few feet ahead.
The motorist or his passenger recording the smash can be heard saying: “Look, he’ll hit there. He’ll hit there!”
Amazingly, no one was injured in the incident after which the Trans-European Motorway E80 had to be shut down for several hours on 10th July.
Images documenting the aftermath of the incident show that the lanes are covered with considerable amounts of rubble.
The lorry was damaged in the crash but luckily the bridge – situated in Istanbul’s Sultanbeyli district – did not collapse.
Witness Tahsin Kara told local media: “While I was drinking tea, there was a big explosion.”
Tahsin went on: “We came running to see what happened. When we arrived, we saw that the tipper crashed into the overpass.”
He concluded: “Thank God, there was no loss of life, only material damage.”
It is unclear whether the empty tipper was raised due to human or technical error or deliberately as the truck was going on the highway.
There has been no information on if the police are investigating the incident and whether the lorry driver’s employer must foot the bill for the repair of the damaged bridge
