An investigation into the bizarre death of a 24-year-old man has confirmed the dad of four had been accidentally shot by his three-year-old son, who found the gun in the living room and mistook it for a plaything.

Gokhan Cimen was pronounced dead shortly after the toddler accidentally shot him in the head at their home in Kayseri, central Turkey, on 28th August of last year (2022).

The three-year-old, identified only as K.A.C., had somehow gotten his hands on the loaded weapon that had been apparently left unattended and began playing with it.

Police and medical teams rushed to the second-floor apartment after an unnamed family member reported the incident, only to find Gokhan was already dead.

His body was taken for an autopsy and investigators questioned the boy’s mother.

Now, after a year-long investigation, they declared the mum free of any suspicion and decided against prosecuting the case due to the boy’s age.

The Kayseri Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement: “The victim’s son, K.A.C., born in 2019, caused the death by firing a gun, and as of the incident date, K.A.C., who was under 12 years old, does not have criminal liability under Article 37/1 of Law No. 5237, and a criminal prosecution cannot be conducted against him.”
