Light-fingered guests have been publicly shamed after they were caught with a huge stash of freebies they had lifted from a hotel in Turkey.

Astonished cleaners found piles of food, drink, towels, and toiletries sneaked from the five-star resort in Antalya by a family of Russian guests.

Jaw-dropping video footage of the haul shows the room’s king-sized bed piled high with bags of items apparently stolen from the public areas of the hotel.

The clip – which emerged on Russian social media – was shot as hotel staff confronted the guests with their illicit stash as they were preparing to check out.

As well as piles of shampoos, toiletries, and towels, the haul includes huge bags of dried figs and apricots, teabags, cans of soft drinks, fresh fruit, and even crackers and butter.

Local media estimated that the loot would have weighed in at a hefty 35 kilogrammes (77 lb).

At one point, one of the Russian tourists unconvincingly tries to explain her stash of freebies.

She can be heard saying that some of it was “given to her in the restaurant” and she had only left it in the room as “gifts” for the cleaners.

But she quickly changes tack, insisting she had taken the snacks in case she and her fellow guests got peckish during the day.

She brazenly told the staff: “What food do we have on the train? We need something to eat, as we’re travelling today.”

After the footage made its way online, netizens mocked the shameless grifters for their hail.

One laughed: “Check the bathroom for the toilet.”

Another joked in a sly dig at the Kremlin’s invasion of Ukraine: “It’s not stealing, it’s a special food removal operation.”

And a third recalled: “Having worked in a hotel, I can say that I’ve witnessed much more than what this video shows.

“This is nothing; some people even took the room’s lamp with them.”
