This is the heroic moment a quick-thinking 11-year-old schoolboy prevents a further accident after a bungling motorist hit another child and gets out of his car without putting the handbrake on.

The incident, captured on camera, shows the schoolboy, whose name has not yet been revealed, along with two other school pupils crossing a road in the Sultangazi area in Turkey’s largest city Istanbul.

They were returning from school at around 3pm on 2nd October.

Suddenly the man’s car can be seen hitting one of the boys and causing him to fall to the ground.

The driver can then be seen getting out of the car to check on the injured child who was already on the ground in pain.

But he forgot to put the handbrake on, with the vehicle beginning to roll backwards.

The 11-year-old boy immediately realises the danger and runs around the car, opening the driver’s door and putting the handbrake on.

The clueless motorist, also unnamed, can be seen opening the other side of the door after realising that his car was moving, but the quick-thinking schoolboy had already finished putting the handbrake on and closed the driver-side door.

According to local media reports, the injured child was transported to the hospital by ambulance and later confirmed to be in good health.

The 11-year-old boy, hailed a hero in local media, is reportedly a foreign student and he and his friends all attend the Sultangazi Martyr Furkan Dogan Imam Hatip Secondary School in Sultangazi.
