Mustafa Bangiz was detained after the assault in Toroslar, Mersin Province, southern Turkey, and then taken into custody, where he remains.

The construction company owner reportedly went for a walk with his girlfriend Esra Asena Temir after coming home from work on 29th June.

Prosecutors say Mustafa punched the 27-year-old woman several times on the head and other parts of her body.

Instead of taking her to a clinic or calling an ambulance, cruel Mustafa left his seriously injured girlfriend lying by the side of the road.

He ran away before eventually phoning someone from his family to take Esra to a hospital.

Doctors at the Toros State Hospital tried in vain to save the young woman’s life. Forensic investigations showed that Esra, who had been with Mustafa for a year, died from a brain haemorrhage.

The state prosecution has now finished its investigations, local media reported on 12th November.

Prosecutors are calling for an aggravated life sentence for the intentional murder of a woman.

Advocate Serdan Soylemez, who represents the family of the victim, told local media: “This was not a simple murder of a woman. It was a planned and premeditated murder.”

The lawyer criticised that no one from Mustafa’s family had been considered as accomplices or suspects in the indictment.

Soylemez emphasised: “We do not agree with this. We think that family members were also complicit in the crime. We will focus on this aspect throughout the trial.”
