Accused Bartu Can Akkisla, 32, had allegedly locked victim Ayse Ozgecan Usta in a room while they discussed their future together when she allegedly became hysterical.

He claims he wanted to end the relationship and said that when she heard that, heartbroken Ayse, 28, threatened to kill herself.

Prosecutors say that because he ignored her until it was too late, he is complicit in her death by his negligence.

A short while later, they say Ayse threw herself off the apartment balcony in the neighbourhood of Incivez in the north-western Turkish city of Zonguldak, falling 130 feet to her death in the early hours of 5th February, 2021.

Akkisla – reported local media – confessed that he had heard Ayse threaten to throw herself off the balcony but did nothing to stop her.

Prosecutors argue that he could have foreseen that she was suicidal and did not do enough to prevent her death.

Ayse’s family also want him prosecuted for false imprisonment for locking the door and stopping her from leaving.

The case is due to be heard at the Zonguldak 2nd Criminal Court of First Instance.

Ayse’s father Kenan Usta told local media: “My daughter was so full of life. She was my dearest.”
