This disgusting footage shows an apparently-naked worker taking a bath in a tank of olives and brine as he fills crates with the green fruit.
The revolting images – which were filmed in Akhisar, Manisa Province, Turkey – were recently shared by the social media account “Gida Dedektifi” (Food Detective).
After watching the clip, horrified netizens wrote to Turkey’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to demand action against the facility.
The Ministry later took to social media to write: “An investigation has been initiated by our Ministry regarding the footage shared on social media, showing the improper handling of pickled olives in terms of food safety and human health.”
The investigation quickly identified Muharrem I. as the alleged culprit, leading to his arrest in Akhisar.
In his statement, the tattooed 42-year-old admitted to having taken a bath in the olive tank.
He claimed the video was “taken and shared for entertainment purposes”, according to local media.
He has since been released on bail.
The Akhisar District Agriculture Directorate has closed and suspended activities at the facility where the footage was filmed on the Prosecutor’s Office’s instruction.
The facility’s owner is subject to “administrative sanctions”, local media report.
Turkey is the fourth-largest olive producer in the world.
