These images purport to show blue lights flashing in the night sky moments before the deadly earthquake hit Morocco.

The terrifying footage shows strange bursts of blue light in the night sky seconds before the earthquake hit, with them continuing as the earthquake strikes.

Mystery still surrounds the blue flashes and what they were, but they also occurred moments before the deadly earthquake in Turkey and Syria earlier this year, according to local media.

Israeli and other media have said that the flashes could be the result of tectonic pressure, seismic activity nearby, or even volcanic activity, but the exact cause of the flashes remains unclear.

At the time of writing, over 2,400 were confirmed dead as a result of the deadly 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit Morocco near Marrakesh and the surrounding area on Friday evening at 11:11 pm.

Over 2,500 people have been injured, and the Moroccan government has come under fire for accepting aid from just four countries, including Spain, Qatar, the UK and the United Arab Emirates, but declining offers of help from others such as Germany and France.

The United Nations estimated 300,000 people have been affected by the earthquake, and rescue efforts are ongoing.

The death toll is considered particularly severe in the High Atlas Mountains near Marrakesh, where entire villages were built out of stone, many of them on steep cliffs.

Locals have said that aid is taking too long to arrive and is too little when it does, with people who could be saved dying under the rubble of their destroyed homes.

Turkey and Syria were hit by a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake on 6th February this year

The death toll stands at 50,783 dead in Turkey and 8,476 dead in Syria.
